The new Regulation of Fertilizer Products 2019/1009/EC will come into force on July 16, repealing Regulation (EC) 2003/2003 as of that date.
This new regulation includes a series of modifications that affect the manufacture, design and marketing of fertilizers in the European market, in order to establish common standards regarding quality, safety and labeling requirements for fertilizer products.
For these reasons, the fertilizers that want to be marketed under the EC FERTILIZER label must meet a series of essential requirements. Each fertilizer product must have:
– A minimum concentration of nutrients depending on the type of fertilizer.
– Contaminant levels that do not exceed the maximum permitted values.
– A label that collects all the information related to the fertilizer, in accordance with the requirements of the new regulations.
– A conformity assessment in which it is demonstrated, and the manufacturer assumes, compliance with all the requirements established by the new legislation.
In addition, this new regulation 2019/1009/EC makes a more specific classification of fertilizers, granting biostimulants their own category for the first time.
The creation and implementation of this new legislation represents a relevant change both in the agricultural industry (manufacturers and producers) and in the consumers themselves, offering products with more information and better quality.
